This covenant was adopted
by the members of Trinity Baptist Church
on October 30, 2022.
As members of this church, we pledge:
1 To walk together in faith, love, and hope;
2 To devote ourselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer;
3 To hold steadfastly that our salvation is by grace through faith in Christ, and not of our own doing;
4 To treasure the Word of God as our daily bread by obeying it, meditating on it, and hiding it in our hearts;
5 To present our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship;
6 To forsake not the assembling of ourselves together, but to gather consistently to exhort and edify one another;
7 To use our spiritual gifts according to the grace Christ has given us, loving one another with brotherly affection, aiding one another in sickness and distress, and, insofar as it depends on us, living peaceably with all;
8 To speak the truth in love by comforting, encouraging, and, when necessary, rebuking; to reconcile conflicts, putting away bitterness and anger, being kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave us;
9 To give gladly to support the ministry, relieve the poor, and spread the gospel to all nations;
10 To renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, being controlled not by wine but by the Holy Spirit; to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, as we await our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works;
11 To advance God’s purpose for his church by bearing witness to Christ at home and work, at school and play, in private and public, in word and deed, for all our lives, so that all might come to know Christ whom to know is life eternal.
The purpose of this covenant is to set forth the basic commitments we as church members make to one another. It follows the sequence of faith, love, and hope.
Statements 1-5 Faith. After an initial statement of our commitment “to walk together in faith, love, and hope,” the covenant refers to the apostles’ teaching as the foundation of our faith. It then proceeds to the source of that teaching (the Bible), and to our personal response to God, namely, presenting ourselves to him as living sacrifices.
Statements 6-9 Love. From there, the covenant deals with the outworking of our love for one another, involving our regular gatherings, the exercise of our spiritual gifts, and our calling to love, encourage, and support one another.
Statement 10 Hope. Then the covenant moves to the Christian’s hope and the shape that hope takes, specifically, living righteously in this present age and eagerly awaiting the return of Christ.
Statement 11 Finally, the covenant concludes with a summary commitment to advance God’s purpose for the church in every domain of life.
